Photography

Here are some example covers of magazines that have been used to attract the readers attention by using direct mode of adress, setting, lighting, font style and font colours to engage their audience's attention.

The "KERRANG!" magazine cover uses the rules of three and the lead singer is obviously the one in the middle and the sleek pose helps convey their rock n' roll lifestyle. Mode of address can be defined as the ways in which relations between addresser and addressee are constructed in a text or image. In order to communicate, a producer of any text must make some assumptions about an intended audience; reflections of such assumptions may be discerned in the image.

In this pic Beyonce is seen as a stylish, woman. The"sexy" pose helps to attract the audience, who aspire to look as good as her.
A medium close-up shot of an individual will take in the body from the knees or waist up, and this is exactly the technique used in this image of Beyonce.

This picture of Ciara is a Medium Close-up shot, and the dramatic "sexy" pose helps to attract a female audience again, because stereotypically, women all over the world want to be seen as healthy, pretty and aspire to be "good-looking" like many celebrities.

For my college magazine I used a hat as a prop and took some images for the cover of my magazine "The Prior Edition". Here are some of the shots:

Full Length Shot
For this photograph I wanted to focus on the framing around the image.
One of the easiest ways to take a creative photograph is to compose your subject with a frame around it. A photographic frame is an object that acts as a border or frame for your subject. The frame directs the viewer’s attention to a particular subject or point of interest within the photograph. Frames also create perspective and show depth which I think this photograph shows.
I have used this full length shot on my college magazines' contents page.

  1. Very interesting...lovely group shot. It perfectly achieves the 'aspirational' effect.
